AHE-14 PSYCHOBUILDINGS - s/t - 12" EP: $12 / CD: $8
After releasing two singles last year NYC's Psychobuildings unveil their first 12" record in EP format. Just shy of 20 minutes the EP showcases the band's already unbeatable dance numbers as well as some finely constructed psychedelic trance inducers heard previously only in their much buzzed about live set. Balancing New Romantic synth explorations with the beat boxing lyricism of Old School Hip-Hop Psychobuildings have come up sounding fresh in delivery and style. Front man Peter LaBier brings the guts back into pop with a feel for groove and and an ear for hooks. Produced by Peter Wade (M.N.D.R) and fleshed out by the synths of Peter Schuette (Test House) and multi-instrumentalist Juan Pieczanski (Small Black), the self-titled EP fires on all cylinders from start to finish.

Birds of Prey

Birds of Prey

AHE-07 PSYCHOBUILDINGS - Birds of Prey b/w Paradise - 7”: $5
The Birds of Prey single is the debut offering from Brooklyn’s Psychobuildings, a group that started as a solo recording project by Peter LaBier and has since expanded to include Peter Schuette on synths and producer Juan Pieczanski. Blending jam-based punk aesthetics with a laser focus on beat and melody, Psychobuildings recalls an era of music when pop, rock, and disco began fusing together to stir up new club sensations. These touchstones have provided LaBier with a foundation for his own unique pop sensibilities. With this double "A side" single Psychobuildings has succeeded in creating a new hybrid, one that brings artfully crafted beats and hooks back to the dance floor.

Psychobuildings

Psychobuildings

Psychobuildings is a psychedelic construction of danceable beats, lyrical splendor, and shimmering dance performance. The group originated with front-man Peter LaBier in 2010, a visual artist with the aim to create not just a band, but an artful experience for all the senses. LaBier joined forces with Peter Schuette (Silk Flowers) and Juan Pieczanski (Small Black) to blend dizzying layers of synth and percussion, creating the band’s upbeat-yet-dark electronic dance sound. Their albums have been released on All Hands Electric, Transparent, Wonder Sounds, and featured on Kitsuné Maison compilations.

Stranger

Stranger

AHE-02 PRECINCT - Stranger - CD: $10
Precinct’s Stranger is a patchwork of sound that deconstructs the rock archetype with a music that could only be described as “avant garage”. It's an art-damaged record that blends noise, pop, punk and dance music with thrilling results. Somewhere between the hard funk of A Certain Ratio and the aural experiments of Swell Maps Precinct is an adventurous band that executes a number of styles in an expressionist manner. Recorded by the primary duo of Aleister Kicker and Hugh Swift in their rehearsal space Stranger possesses a lively atmosphere full of basement jams, punk anthems, noise themes and killer singles.

Peter's House Music

Peter’s House Music

Peter's House Music is an accumulation of music recorded by Peter Schuette at his home recording studio in Greenpoint Brooklyn. Previously a member of Silk Flowers and Psychobuildings, PHM has been Peter's outlet to explore some of his previously unaddressed influences. Mixing house beats, Depeche Mode-style FM keyboard sounds, piano, guitar, etc., Peter starts with elements of electronic dance music and writes compositions that bridge the gap between Roedelius' (of Cluster) slow and thoughtful Selbstportrait series, early 80s electro-dance and R&B, Dam Funk, and whoever else escaped from his subconscious at the time of recording.

Precinct

Precinct

Precinct was a short-lived, New York based group that made music and visual art. Band members have included Peter Labier (Psychobuildings), Nathan Gwynne (The Love Love's), Etienne Dugay (Real Estate, Predator Vision) and Zachary Cale. Sonically the band was quite adventurous, blending low fidelity garage styles with free form dub jams. With their use of blaring saxes, jagged guitars, sci fi synths and emotively delivered vocals Precinct shared a sound akin to bands like PIL, Swell Maps, and A Certain Ratio. After releasing the Compound EP on Black Maze Books, Precinct recorded their first full length album, Stranger, which was released in the fall of 2008 on All Hands Electric.
