Blue Rider

ER-004/AHE-20 ZACHARY CALE- Blue Rider - LP: $15 (BLUE VINYL EDITION)
Often cited by critics and peers alike as a songwriter’s songwriter, Zachary Cale has been quietly constructing a catalog for nearly a decade, one which showcases a unique voice across folk ballads, guitar instrumentals, and country-tinged rock. On his 4th release, Blue Rider, Cale abandons the full-band arrangements of his previous album (2011's Noise of Welcome), opting for a minimalist approach that illuminates his strengths as a solo performer. Each track on the album is marked with his signature finger-style guitar playing , vocal command, and lyrical mastery. Blending the echoed open-tuned guitar patterns of artists like John Martyn and Bert Jansch with the desolate American lyricism of lone riders like Simon Joyner and Elliott Smith, Cale continues to stand out as a songwriter of uncommon power.

Illuminations

Illuminations

Illuminations was a short lived rock band based out of Gowanus, Brooklyn from the years 2007 - 2009. The group was led by songwriter/guitarist Zachary Cale, and founded with long time friends Ryan Johnson, Kris Benedict and Phil Glauberzon. Equally inspired by the plugged-in folk rock of albums like Highway 61 Revisited, Zuma and the power pop aesthetics of Big Star and Tom Petty, Illuminations embraced elements of country, folk, blues and punk to form their own brand of American rock music.

Noise of Welcome

Noise of Welcome

AHE-13 ZACHARY CALE - Noise of Welcome - LP: $14 / CD: SOLD OUT!
Noise of Welcome, the third full length album by Zachary Cale, is a collection of songs that is distinctly modern in tone and substance. Moving from acoustic ballads and oddly tuned instrumentals, to electrified country and Kinksian pop, the album projects a kind of psych/folk/rock hybrid, recalling the genre shifts of Fleetwood Mac's Tusk or Big Star's Sister Lovers. Featuring performances by members of Cale's former ensemble, Illuminations, and guest spots by Chris Brokaw, D. Charles Speer, Anni Rossi, and others, Cale's signature finger-picking technique is reinforced with grander orchestral movements and a full backing band which helps to illuminate the brilliance of his craft.

Come Quietly

Come Quietly

AHE-08 ZACHARY CALE - Come Quietly b/w The Wedding Party - 7”: $5
Culled from the archive of unreleased songs by Zachary Cale comes two unearthed gems, available for the first time through All Hands Electric. Recorded during the interim of his second LP Walking Papers and his band Illuminations' See-Saw LP, these two songs were originally cut as demos. "Come Quietly" is a field recording from the modern age, complete with chirping birds and the groan of passing cars. "The Wedding Party" is a stream of consciousness ode to love with lyrical images floating by like faces in train windows. The rush of images and the giddy, pulse-like rhythm makes "The Wedding Party" another classic in Zachary Cale's growing canon of songs.

Walking Papers

Walking Papers

AHE-03 ZACHARY CALE - Walking Papers  -  LP: $14 / CDR: $8
Walking Papers, the sophomore album by Zachary Cale, marks the artist’s leap from a four-track-bedroom-folkie to a songwriter of visionary scope. Recorded by Kevin Mcmahon in the legendary Bearsville Sound Studios in 2005 Walking Papers moves away from the lo-fi intimacy of Cale's first album with bigger production values and accompaniment by an array of musicians. Evoking the austere finger-style guitar work of Bert Jansch and the poetic couplets of Townes Van Zandt the album exhibits a genuine craft of American tradition; the songs are bona fide gems with every note and lyrical phrase informed by a quiet beauty, both familiar and timeless.

Zachary Cale

Zachary Cale

Zachary Cale is a songwriter originally hailing from the small town of Enon, Louisiana. His music ranges from lyrical folk balladry and American primitive inspired guitar instrumentals to experiments in popular song forms. He has toured extensively throughout the U.S. and in Europe, often performing alone with only an acoustic guitar, but has been known to perform with a revolving cast of musicians whom he calls The Rain Band. He has been likened to classic songwriters of the past such as Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt, Neil Young, Alex Chilton, Ray Davies, and Leonard Cohen, musicians who in their unwavering hold on the muse transcend genre classification while maintaining that rare ability to tell stories of their own time.

Precinct

Precinct

Precinct was a short-lived, New York based group that made music and visual art. Band members have included Peter Labier (Psychobuildings), Nathan Gwynne (The Love Love's), Etienne Dugay (Real Estate, Predator Vision) and Zachary Cale. Sonically the band was quite adventurous, blending low fidelity garage styles with free form dub jams. With their use of blaring saxes, jagged guitars, sci fi synths and emotively delivered vocals Precinct shared a sound akin to bands like PIL, Swell Maps, and A Certain Ratio. After releasing the Compound EP on Black Maze Books, Precinct recorded their first full length album, Stranger, which was released in the fall of 2008 on All Hands Electric.

See-Saw

See-Saw

AHE-01 ILLUMINATIONS - See Saw - LP: $14 / CDR: $6
The debut album by Illuminations is the inaugural offering from All Hands Electric. Featuring the vocals and guitar of Zachary Cale and backed by long time friends Kris Benedict, Ryan Johnson and Phil Glauberzon See-Saw falls into what Gram Parsons called “cosmic American music”. Accordingly, it lies somewhere between the country-tinged soul of Big Star and the punk spirit of The Wipers. It was recorded and produced by the band in their basement on an 8 track reel-to-reel machine. The end result is an enigmatic album that is both familiar and foreign; one that wears the suit of American rock & roll, but broadcasts anthems from another universe.
